According to a new study that was conducted in the United Kingdom, BMW drivers are much more likely to behave aggressively while driving, increasing their risk of being involved in a serious or fatal car accident.
In the study, motorists were asked to identify the color and model of the car that they found most frequently involved in road rage or aggressive driving-related incidents. A majority of the respondents in the study found men between the ages of 35 and 50 driving BMW's as having the highest chance of being involved in road rage-related incidents. The study identified these drivers as having the highest rates of aggressive driving-related behaviors, including swearing.
Aggressive driving is a phenomenon in which a person drives in a manner that increases the chance of being involved in a serious or fatal accident. A large number of behaviors can be included under aggressive driving, and this includes driving at excessive speeds, running red lights, veering between lanes, unsafe lane changes, tailgating, failing to yield to pedestrians and other behaviors.
All of these behaviors are dangerous, and increase the risk of an accident that can injure not just the aggressive driver, but also other motorists on the road. In extreme cases, aggressive driving can take on the form of road rage, in which a person shows extreme hostility towards other motorists on the road. Such episodes of road rage are also very often likely to lead to an accident.
If you identify an aggressive driver on the road, don't antagonize him further. Avoid using obscene gestures, and be cautious. Avoid engaging in an altercation with the aggressive driver, and give the driver plenty of room.
